Dyson V15 cordless vacuum uses laser to detect dust

Dyson has just released an all-new cordless vacuum with a game-changing new feature that lets you see hidden dirt in your home.

Just when you thought a Dyson vacuum couldn’t get any better, out comes the brand with new technology that is bound to blow your mind.

There’s a reason why the all-new Dyson V15 took a team of 370 engineers to develop.

It features intricate laser technology that detects hidden dust as small as 10 microns.

In other words, it shows you exactly what needs to be cleaned and saves you from having to go over the same spot repeatedly.

“This really takes Dyson’s technology to the next level,” Dyson’s product expert George Bariamis told news.com.au

The idea came about when a Dyson engineer noticed that airborne particles in their home glistened in the sun.

They then began to research how they could take this notion and apply it to the fine dust that you often struggle to see in your home.

The team experimented with laser lights in the lab to test how it could be achieved, leading to the birth of the V15 Detect.

Mr Bariamis said the new product has a slim, fluffy cleaner head fitted with lasers that helps reveal hidden dust.

However, the new head isn’t designed to be used on carpets or rugs, just on hard floors.

Mr Bariamis said it can pick up larger debris from carpets, however they recommend using Dyson’s High Torque cleaner head to deep clean carpets.

And if prefer not using the laser, there is the option to switch it off.

But either way Mr Bariamis said it is a Class 1 laser and deemed safe and non-harmful.

“We’ve also added an LCD screen that not only measures and counts the amount of particles, but it reacts instantly,” Mr Bariamis said.

He said it does this by increasing its suction power whenever it detects dirt or dust.

“When the bars on the graph start growing it means the floor area has been cleaned.”

Like the V10 and V11 versions, the battery life of the new vacuum is also up to 60 minutes.

However, the moment you switch to the Boost option it can decrease the running time due to its extra power.

“This allows the machine to intelligently dictate the suction power according to the floor type and levels of dust,” Will Kerr, head of category and floorcare said.

He explained that after it detects dust, suction increases, but then automatically reduces, helping to save power and battery life.

But, apart from the laser feature, Dyson have also addressed a “frustrating” problem often experienced by its owners — tangled hair.

In response, they developed a new anti-tangle conical brush bar which spirals hair (and pet hair) off and into the bin.

It has 56 “teeth” to prevent tangling around the bristles when you are cleaning, and automatically clears hair from the brush bar, so you don’t have to.

The new head was tested on 7.5 million individual hair strands, including hair extensions.

But now for the ultimate question — how much?

If you have a spare $1399, it’s all yours.

There’s another version called the Absolute Extra, however that’s a bit more expensive with a $1449 price tag. The difference between the two is the Extra comes with a free standing dock, filtration and is gold in colour.

Both are available from May 27 via the Dyson website.
