Customers using $49 Kmart dog bed as footstool, kids’ lounge

The discount department store is selling a bargain home item that customers have found a surprising number of different uses for.

It can be a hard task to find the right foot stool – it has to be comfy, not too flashy and certainly helps if it’s cheap.

Which is why it’s no surprise that many customers have been taken by a $49 Scandi-style padded bench from Kmart, except for the fact that it’s actually a dog bed.

Shoppers shared in the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook group how they weren’t just using it as a bench for their pooch but also as a “lounge” for toddlers or a foot stool at the end of their bed.

“My puppies love them. I have one in the lounge room which we also use as foot stool,” one shopper commented.

“Our daycare bought these and they make a perfect reading lounge for the children with some comfy cushions,” another wrote.

“I teach kinder and also have one as a seat in the classroom cos it’s sturdy and just as nice,” one customer also commented.

Others were stunned to find out it was actually a dog bed, with one person writing: “I was thinking a matching foot stool for my couch! Didn’t realise it was a dog bed.”

“I was thinking ottoman,” another wrote.

“I didn’t realise it was a dog bed!” one shopper commented.

“That’s the beauty of it when people come over they don’t know it’s a dog bed,” one woman wrote.

But some warned that the bench wasn’t suitable for all uses as it only could carry a maximum weight of 50kg, while another person joked it was “not Jack Russell proof”.

“That’s awesome I want one....... oh wait I need to buy a dog,” another person quipped.

Shoppers go crazy for $35 shoe rack

It’s not the first time customers have co-opted a Kmart item for something else – back in 2017 a shoe rack went viral for being used as everything from a hallway bench to a bedroom seat.

“I need this in my life,” one shopper wrote on Facebook at the time, while popular Kmart accounts @Kmartgrapevine and @Kmartlover also posted about the furniture piece.

Shoppers labelled the stool “amazing” and it became one of the store’s most in-demand items for the year.
