Grand Designs Australia features luxury Brisbane home ‘Boomerang’

An incredible home which cost a staggering $2.7 million to build has been featured on tonight’s episode of Grand Designs Australia.

Grand Designs Australia Season 9

One of Australia’s top homes featured on tonight’s episode of Grand Designs Australia.

The unbelievable high-end mansion in Brisbane’s heritage suburb of Ascot was designed by and for architectural husband and wife team Joe and Hayley Adsett, who spent about $2.7 million on the build alone, a record for this ninth season of the show.

Mr Adsett is renowned as one of the Queensland capital’s leading architects, and now it was time to bring to life his extraordinary vision for his own home.

The existing post-war home on the block, which they bought in 2017, was demolished to make way for the Adsetts’ dream house, an L-shaped northeast facing masterpiece fit with 9m pool, tennis court and underground wine cellar.

Affectionately named the ‘Boomerang’, it took 12 months to complete the three-level property on the 1200sq m block, with its crowning feature a wraparound upper-tier library and a helical sculptural staircase.

“This project was a big risk but what a reward – it pushed the limits in terms of design and materials driven by an uncompromising joint vision,” Grand Designs host Peter Maddison said.

“It rarely happens. They’ve had the finances, the freedom and the talent to let their imaginations run wild.

“This house is pristine. An exuberant expression of architectural creativity and craftsmanship.”

All up, the Adsetts spent more than $5 million on the block, build, labour and furnishings.

A keen buyer offered upwards of $7.5 million to purchase the home, but they turned it down.

Next week’s episode of Grand Designs, the final for this series, is the most emotional one yet when an unfathomable tragedy rocks the build.
