Cult collectable meerkat statues return to Woolworths’ shelves
They’re the “strange” garden item with a beloved following – and now Woolworths has put them back on shelves at a discounted price.
They’re the “strange” garden statue that, in recent years, have built up a beloved following – and sold in the tens of thousands – and now Woolworths has put them back on shelves.
Shoppers at the grocery giant can finally fill the (potentially) meerkat-shaped hole in their home or front lawn, after the cult collectibles were spotted on the shelves of a Sydney store over the weekend.
Retailing from just $8, there are plenty to choose from depending on your taste, including meerkats dressed as penguins, ladybirds, Easter bunnies, brides and grooms. The garden ornaments measure 22cm x 11cm x 9cm.
Multiple people have already taken to Facebook to showcase their new collections.
A Woolworths spokeswoman confirmed to news.com.au that following their “recent Halloween and Christmas meerkat statues, the meerkats were back and dressed up to celebrate Easter”.
“Customers can shop from four Easter meerkat characters including meerkats disguised as Easter bunny rabbits and even an Easter egg,” she added.
“The Easter meerkat range is available while stocks last, so we encourage meerkat fanatics to get in quick.”
In 2020, Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci revealed in his monthly newsletter that the supermarket had sold a whopping 60,000 statues in less than a month.
The grocery giant had doubled its order of the figurines in 2020 but still managed to sell the equivalent of 2019’s stock in the first week they’d landed on shelves.
Brought back each year since 2019, avid gardeners have in the past taken to social media to rave about the “adorable” statues.
“How adorable are these meerkat statues currently in Woolworths? Lots of different ones and $8 each,” one woman posted on Facebook alongside a snap of her two buys.
“My two new garden gnomes. Well Christmas meerkats really. Found in Woolworths, $8 each I think,” another person wrote.
