Sydney pharmacist reveals three ways you’re using Hydralyte wrong

A Sydney pharmacist has shocked his followers after revealing the three reasons this popular hangover cure might not be working for you.

Hangover cure you've been using wrong

A Sydney pharmacist has shared why a popular hangover cure might not be working for you.

Jamil Karaki, who posts under the handle @MegamindPharmacist on TikTok and Instagram, shocked his followers when he explained the ways you could be using Hydralyte wrong.

The electrolyte tablets are a staple in many Australians’ hangover routines – but rather than popping them in a full glass or bottle of water, Karaki said you actually need to have 100ml of water per tablet to dissolve it in. Anything more, and you’re diluting its effects.

“Many people actually don’t know how to use Hydralyte correctly,” he said in a TikTok video that’s been viewed more than half a million times.

“Each tablet from this tube has to be dissolved in 100ml of water.

“So if you go to the shops and buy a bottle of water that’s 6-00ml and decide to dissolve some Hydralyte in it to make you feel better, then you will need six of those tablets to make it up to the right concentration or it won’t be hydrating you properly.”

Knocking the drink back like a shot – rather than sipping it slowly (which the instructions advise) – also won’t do you any favours, Karaki said. You need to give your body the chance to absorb the fluid it requires to recover.

And finally – don’t make the electrolyte drink if you don’t intend to drink it straight away.

“If you’ve made up the solution of Hydralyte, you have two hours to drink it – unless you’re keeping it refrigerated,” Karaki advised.

Hundreds of Aussies took to the comments to confess they’d been misusing the tablets.

“I’ve been dissolving one tablet in 700ml and drinking over a few hours,” one admitted.

While another wrote: “I’ve been drinking it wrong for years it seems.”

“So this is why it didn’t cure my hangovers,” a third commented.

While a fourth said: “You just changed all my future hangovers! Thank you.”

“I’m today years old when I found out I’ve been using these Hydralyte tablets wrong,” she said.

“How many hangovers have I been through when I decide to pop one in a cup or if I’m feeling spicy, maybe two?”
