Dr Karl reveals how much weight people lose when they fart

It might not be a proven method for dropping the kilos, but Aussie celebrity scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki has revealed how much weight you can lose from farting.

Always to be relied upon to answer the important questions, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki has taken to TikTok to reveal whether you actually lose weight when you fart.

The beloved Aussie scientist began by saying there’s no such thing as a silly question, before going into the calculations for solving the query.

He explained that farts were made up of 60 per cent nitrogen, 20 per cent hydrogen, 10 per cent carbon dioxide and 10 per cent methane.

“If you do all the numbers, it works out that it’s about 80 per cent of the weight of normal air, so you would kind of expect it to float,” Dr Karl said.

“But it gets compressed in your bowel and your gut, so we can just forget about it being lighter than air.”

Dr Karl added that most people fart 1.5-litres of gas per day.

“When you do the ‘ideal gas law’, it works out to be about 1.5g per day,” he said.

He added that coincidentally it was roughly the same mass of skin cells that you lose every day.

“I am certain that I fart 761kg per day,” one person joked in the comment section.

Another added: “So … exfoliate more and eat more beans? My summer body will be on point.”

One person commented: “I’m one taco value meal away from my goal weight.”

Another said: “So, I should probably try fart 10 times more than normal for a little extra weight loss? Lol.”

One social media user simply said “the more you know”.

Dr Karl often answers the questions from everyday Australians, previously explaining how much dirt and insects people consume in their daily cup of tea.
