A note targeting a “phantom vomiter” in Sydney has sparked a tumultuous wave of backlash from a group of fiery locals.

The note, discovered in Cremorne on the city’s Lower North Shore warned “someone is regularly vomiting in Reynolds Street”.

“Over the last few months, someone has been vomiting against the large paperbark trees in Reynolds Street near the corner of Benelong Road,” the person wrote, noting the vomiting started a couple of years ago but stopped after a few months.

“However it has recently recommenced,” the note warned.

The note has caused a stir.

“It is happening about twice a week, usually between Thursday and Sunday evenings.”

The person concluded that the culprit either had a “serious drinking problem or suffers from bulimia”.

“It is someone walking home from a night out, probably at The Oaks, and has to vomit before arriving home,” the person speculated.

“It is not a one-off, involuntary action – it is deliberate.

“It poses a health risk for pets and wildlife – dogs and native birds have been seen eating the vomit”.

However, some local residents were not impressed with the note.

One person wrote: “If you really care, find the person and ask are you okay. Could make it worse as they feel the world is watching and is against them”.

“This person is obviously really unwell and obviously needs kindness and help not everyone laughing at them, whatever the reason may be,” a second commented.

The note warned the vomiting occurred against the large paperbark trees in Reynolds Street.

“A similar style note left on the tree with some helpline numbers might be more helpful to the phantom vomiter,” a third wrote. “I feel this note only shames them more. I hope they are okay.”

Another took issue with the reference to an eating disorder.

“Disgusting,” the person wrote. “Whoever wrote this needs an education. Newsflash. it may be more than one intoxicated person.”

Others though said they had noticed the problem across the neighbourhood.
“I’ve noticed this as well when walking my dog at night,” one wrote. “The vomit patch is usually massive but I agree that it is gross.”

Another agreed vomit was a “health hazard”.

“As a medical professional for all the people who are saying get a life, vomit can carry hazardous pathogens that become airborne such as salmonella, typhoid, hepatitis A & B,” the person wrote.

“Additionally if you vomit while drunk on the street you can be arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct.”
