Thousands of naked adults gathered at dawn at Bondi Beach under the watchful eye of a famous US artist.

About 2500 people participated in an exhibition by the renowned photographer Spencer Tunick, who has made a name shooting naked people in public locations around the world.

Saturday’s piece was done in collaboration with Australian company Skin Check Champions with the aim of raising awareness for skin cancer.

One of Saturday’s participants, Elle Katzanis, told ABC radio on Wednesday that participants weren’t naked for the entire duration of the morning.

Ms Katzanis said she found Tunick’s work “kind of beautiful.”

In 2010 Tunick rallied 5000 people to strip down on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Other exhibitions have occurred in London and Amsterdam.

Skin Cancer remains one of Australia’s most concerning cancers.

Australia, which loses 2000 people every year to skin cancer, has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world.

Two in every three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime.
