The Ultimate Snoring Fix: Two Master Bedrooms

Hallelujah! There’s a sigh of relief for those who can’t sleep because of their snoring partner.

Scientists are one step closer to creating a nightly treatment to stop snoring. Here‘s everything you need to know about your ticket to a good night’s sleep — finally.

Scientists are undergoing trials for a new nightly tablet that back in a 2018 study was shown to reduce snoring frequency for 20 research volunteers by 74 per cent — from an average of 28.5 breathing interruptions per hour to just 7.5.

The pill, codenamed AD109, is made up of two medications – atomoxetine, which is widely used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children; and oxybutynin, which is normally prescribed to patients with urinary incontinence. The researchers found combining the two not only reduced snoring, but increased the patients’ blood oxygen levels.

Now two years later and AD109 is currently undergoing a much larger clinical trial in the United States to test its safety and efficacy before it can be distributed to the general public.

A recent Sleep Health Foundation study found one in every three face problematic sleep each night because of their partners, with snoring being the major culprit. Moreover, loud snoring on a regular basis was evident in 24 per cent of men and 17 per cent of women, so it’s no wonder this pill might be a lifesaver for some.

Despite the good news, researchers have warned the new snoring treatment does come with side effects, both physical and mental, such as abdominal discomfort, constipation and quite serious mood swings.
