Queensland’s fourth wave of Covid is over after massive drop in cases, Acting Premier reports
A major update has been revealed in one state’s response to the Covid pandemic as the latest statistics on cases are reported.
Queensland’s fourth Covid wave is officially over, with the state moving to a green alert setting.
Acting Premier Steven Miles he announced the change in the state’s traffic light system on Wednesday.
The state has reported a 39 per cent decrease in active cases this month.
“Returning us to levels before this wave in early November,” Mr Miles told reporters.
There were just over 9000 new cases reported in the week to January 13 and 437 people received treatment in hospital.
There are just nine people receiving treatment in intensive care units across the state.
Queensland will now be downgraded from amber to a green alert setting after almost two months of surging Covid cases.
This indicates that there are low rates of community transmission and the state is no longer in a Covid-19 wave.
It is recommended that Queenslanders continue to stay home if they’re sick, keep up to date with vaccinations and maintain good hygiene.
Masks only need to be worn if required by a healthcare provider, venue or household.
If experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, it is important to take a rapid antigen test (RAT) and report it through the Queensland government website.
The state is believed to have reached the peak of the latest wave of the pandemic on December 20 when 16,000 cases were reported.
About 80 per cent of Queenslanders are believed to have contracted the virus since the pandemic began in March 2020.
