Hundreds said goodbye to the mother-of-four before her life support was turned off this week.

Queensland grandpa’s bizarre funeral request

Hundreds of mourners have said a final bedside goodbye to a young mum whose life support was turned off this week.

Timika Allen, a 26-year-old mother-of-four from Queensland, died at Cairns Hospital on Tuesday surrounded by loved ones after a self-inflicted injury on Sunday, the Cairns Post reported.

Ms Allen’s biological grandmother Shirley Tognola said her granddaughter was a beautiful soul.

“There were 250 people at the hospital on Tuesday, we kept her alive long enough so everyone could see her,” she said.

“She was loved, everyone loved Timeka.”

Ms Tognola said there was also a sense of anger in the Indigenous community around the events that led to the young woman’s death.

It is understood Ms Allen had been locked in a dispute with a state government department.

“You have a lot of angry people in Cairns right now, they (department) have no idea of the worm they have unleashed,” Ms Tognola said.

On Tuesday family member Ruby Knuth started a GoFundMe campaign to help say farewell to Ms Allen.

“We are reaching out to our community for support in honouring Timika’s memory,” the GoFundMe page states.

“I would love to help with raising funds to ease the financial burden of funeral expenses for the family during this already challenging time.

“The family wants to give Timika the dignified and heartfelt send-off she deserves.”
