‘I think she’s just stopped breathing’: 9yo’s harrowing triple-0 call
Audio has captured the harrowing moment a nine-year girl told emergency services her mum had stopped breathing.
A nine-year-old girl is being credited with saving her mum’s life after calmly calling triple-0 when she suddenly collapsed.
Charli Johnson performed CPR on mum Sharon for about 17 minutes until paramedics arrived at their Gold Coast home.
The young girl impressed emergency operators with her composure throughout the ordeal.
In audio of the call, Charli can be heard saying she thought her mum had stopped breathing after which she was talked through how to perform the life-saving procedure.
“She just kneeled to the ground and just fainted. I don’t know – I think she’d just stopped breathing,” Charli told Emergency Medical Dispatcher Anne Barklimore.
Ms Barklimore calmly talked Charli through checking Sharon’s vitals and the pair counted compressions together as she performed CPR.
Sharon soon regained consciousness and has since recovered from a viral infection which is believed to be behind her to collapse.
Importantly, Charli also firstly provided her address and mum’s phone number so an ambulance could be dispatched as swiftly as possible.
Charli credited the TV show “Operation Ouch” with giving her the confidence to handle a medical emergency.
“It shows CPR and tells you to ring Triple Zero in an emergency,” she told Nine’s Today Show.
“I just remembered my address and mum’s phone number.”
Ms Barklimore described Charli as one of the most composed callers she had ever dealt with.
“I needed her to know she wasn’t alone. I needed her to know I was here with her and I was going to stay with her,” she said.
“I was also thinking I really needed Sharon to be okay because Charli needs a mum around to become the legendary human she’s going to be.”
