ONLINE

There are also numerous online retailers still selling toilet paper including ebay.com.au and Amazon Australia.

eBay Australia has more than 11,000 toilet paper listings ranging from the genuine and affordable to definitely a joke.

One person is spruiking a “coronavirus-free” $1.25 roll while there are packs of toilet paper listed for sale in tens of thousands of dollars with no buyers yet.

An ebay Australia spokeswoman told news.com.au that it does not allow sellers to “capitalise on disaster or tragedy”.

“We are conducting regular sweeps of the site to remove items such as face masks, hand sanitiser and toilet paper listed at inflated prices,” they said.

“Sellers of these items and repeat offenders may be subject to a number of actions including account restriction.

“Maintaining a safe marketplace is of utmost importance to us. Our international security teams work around the clock to help safeguard eBay and work closely with regulators in all markets.

“While we take every step to be vigilant against listings that break our rules, eBay is Australia’s largest online marketplace with 1.4-billion global listings. We encourage members of the community to let us know if something doesn’t look right.”

However, some smaller online retailers are feeling the pressure as customers look for other places to buy toilet paper.

A spokesperson for the Toilet Paper Man told news.com.au they have been overwhelmed by orders.

“I can’t understand what has gone on,” they said. “People who usually order three bags have ordered 21 bags, it is like there is a shortage which they have actually self manufactured.

“Unfortunately it has made life very difficult to look after our regular clients. Everybody thinks it’s funny but it has been a very difficult week.”
