Rachel climbed a tree to rescue her scared kitten. The next moment the young mum of three was paralysed
THIRTY-YEAR-OLD Perth mum of three Rachel climbed a tree to rescue her kitten. Moments later she was paralysed.
“QUEENS, meet Rachel Maree,” begins Constance Hall’s post on her Facebook page.
The popular mummy blogger took to social media to draw attention to the plight of a Perth mum who had a horror accident last week.
“[Rachel’s] best friend Rikki Livingston messaged me last night to tell me about her and to ask me to give her a shout out,” writes Hall to her 1.1 million Facebook followers.
“You see she is just the best Queen, this babe has 3 kids, she works so hard without ever having time off and would give anything to anyone.
“But earlier this week this beautiful women’s new kitten got stuck up a tree and having the biggest caring heart she climbed it to save the kitten.
“Unfortunately she fell and landed on the root of the tree and at that instant she knew she was paralysed, she may never use her legs again.
“Rachel I don’t know what we can do to help you, but your best mate told me that you are one of us, always on this page and I want you to know we have your back, if you need anything.”
“Rikki wants you to know that this is going to be the biggest battle that you two will ever face but you’re facing it together. She said ‘you’re gonna have some bad days, but everything will be OK’
“Rikki also told me that you would give your last dollar to anyone and live for your kids. I cant understand why this has happened to such a beautiful person, but we are here for you Rachel.”
Hall’s post has had a response from 6.2k people and has been met with a slew of supportive comments.
“Be strong and don’t think you can’t,” wrote one woman.
“You know how strong you are don’t give up prove your self wrong. Even if it’s wiggling the toes it’s an improvement. Praying for you”.
From her hospital bed in Perth, Rachel (who is a 30 year-old mum of children aged 12, 8 and 4), recalls the incident for news.com.au.
“My cat was getting attacked and ran up my tree outside (she’s only a kitten) so I climbed the tree and got a bit too high, slipped lost my balance and fell on an exposed tree root at the bottom of the tree.
I landed on my back and it felt as though my body broke in half.”
Luckily her partner was on hand to call the ambulance.
Today she is being moved to Fiona Stanley Hospital to begin rehabilitation.
“No one has any answers regarding my recovery (prospects) ... I’m paralysed right now and I’m being told to try and stay positive, however I think the future looks pretty bleak”.
Despite the lack of certainty about her recovery, Rachel says she has been buoyed by Constance Hall’s Facebook post.
“My goodness! Thankyou Con for putting some sunshine in my day! This has made me smile and I haven’t in a while! I’m your biggest fan and im totally star struck! Thanks for this beautiful post girlfriend you rock my world! Woweeeeee! Love you all queens! Staying positive.”
She said she has received hundreds of messages of support from people who have read about her accident on social media.
“I’m completely overwhelmed by the love,” she writes.
“You are all making this situation that much easier for me and for that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
She says there’s been talk on social media of setting up a crowd-funding page to assist her recovery, but “honestly, I don’t expect anything ... I’m happy for the support which has been lovely”.
