Popular Kmart item recalled over electrocution fears
There are concerns the item’s power cord could detach, exposing live wires.
An urgent recall has been issued for a Kmart lamp over fears it could cause a bad electric shock, or even electrocution, following a few shock incidents.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued the recall on Monday for the Marmo Table Lamp, which is sold at Kmart stores and online across the country.
Live wires may become exposed if the power cord breaks away from the in-line switch.
“Electric shock incidents associated with this defect have occurred,” reads the ACCC’s recall notice.
The lamps affected were sold between January 2016 and December 2019.
Anyone with one of the lamps is being urged to disconnect it from power, safely cut the cord, and return it to a Kmart or Khub store for a full refund or replacement.
Anyone needing more information can contact Kmart Customer Service on 1800 124 125, or via their website.
Energy Safe Victoria is the regulator responsible for the recall.
