He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Queensland Police Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said police spoke to the man’s friends who told them he had been consuming cocaine earlier that evening.

Superintendent Knowles said it appeared that cocaine had contributed to the man collapsing on the dance floor.

“It is important to understand that there is no way you can determine the purity of illicit drugs, or if (illicit drugs have) been mixed with other chemicals,” he said.

“You are taking your life into your own hands by taking illicit drugs, and unfortunately this man has experienced that.

“We say just be very, very cautious.

“They are illicit for a reason, don’t take drugs.”
