Major retailers that remain open during Sydney lockdown
One of the big questions about lockdown rules is whether stores like Bunnings, Kmart, Coles and Woolies open? Here’s a list of what’s open.
Greater Sydney is now in lockdown and one of the big questions is — what is open?
The NSW State Government on Saturday ordered a two-week stay-at-home order from 6pm through to July 9.
The order affects Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong.
People may only leave home for four reasons and they include essential work, medical care, education or shopping for essential goods and services.
Hospitality venues – including bars, restaurants and cafes – can open for takeaway only.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said major retailers will also remain open, reassuring Sydneysiders there is no need to panic buy.
“There is no need to panic buy. All the shops will be open every day of the week,” she said on Saturday.
“There is no curfew. You can leave your home at any stage to purchase any essential goods that you need to and that is a given.”
Also, don’t forget to wear a mask. They are mandatory when indoors, except when at home.

Major retailers that are open in NSW
Bunnings

Coles
The supermarket chain, together with its liquor stores and Coles Express sites will stay open. It has increased the frequency of cleaning in high touchpoint areas including self-checkout screens and keypads, in addition to their existing safety and hygiene measures.
A Coles spokesman said to ensure customers have access to toilet paper, Coles has introduced a temporary two pack per person limit in all NSW stores.
“We have plenty of stock in our supply chain, and this temporary measure will help us to manage demand so that we can return our stores to a fully-stocked position as quickly as possible,” a spokesman said.
“We ask that customers stay calm, shop normally and be respectful to our hardworking team members.”

Woolworths
Woolworths will also remain open during lockdown with none of their times affected. However, it too has reinstated a purchase limit of two toilet paper packs per customer in New South Wales both in-store and online.
The move follows a spike in demand following the two-week lockdown.
“We understand this is an uncertain time in New South Wales, but we want to reassure customers our stores will remain open throughout the lockdown,@ a Woolworths spokesman said.
“We have plenty of stock in our supply chain, and our team members will be hard at work making sure it flows into our stores in large volumes for our customers.
“As always, we encourage our customers to be mindful of others in the community and buy only what they need.”
Woolies will conduct additional monitoring of social distancing and has put on extra team members to support with additional cleaning and wiping down of trolleys.
Kmart, Big W
Same goes for Kmart and Big W in that there is no changes to their trading hours. Both will remain open during the two-week lockdown period.
IGA
IGA supermarket stores are independently owned, so it depends on where you live, but most are likely to remain open.
Major food chains
Fast-food chains such as KFC, Macca’s and Oporto will also remain open during the lockdown period. The only change is to dine-in with no customers allowed to eat inside the venues. Takeaway is available and drive-thru will also remain open.
