A heartbroken family is mourning the sudden loss of a 20-year-old father who has left behind his pregnant partner and two young sons.

Lockie Seddon, from Gippsland, Victoria, suddenly passed away on November 24 just days after picking up a golden staph infection.

He was placed into an induced coma but sadly, never woke up.

Now his devastated family are trying to pick up the pieces of this unimaginable loss and say they have no idea how they will be able to afford to give Lockie the send-off he deserves.

His aunt Danielle Sherer has set up a GoFundMe to help ease the burden of paying for a funeral and to hopefully give his partner Claire, 22, and their sons Mason, 3, and Jax, 2, a good Christmas despite everything they are going through.

“When it came to being a dad, those kids were Lockie’s entire life,” Ms Sherer told news.com.au.

“He was a very cheeky young man and a really hands-on dad. You could just tell how much his boys loved him.

“They would wrestle and playfight, they just adored him. It breaks my heart that they will never have that again.

“When Claire fell pregnant, we all couldn’t believe that they finally got their little girl. He was over the moon.

“We just can’t believe this has happened.”

Ms Sherer said there were absolutely no signs that the young father had anything wrong with him before a small cold sore-like spot appeared on his lip.

He thought it looked “weird’ and went his local GP, who his family say determined it was simply some kind of bite or cut.

But little did anyone know, this tiny sore would spread the deadly infection to his brain overnight.

Lockie woke up the next morning in extreme pain, with his eyes “bulging out of his head”.

Turning to his pregnant partner Claire, he told her two words: “I’m dying”.

Rushing to their local hospital, he was placed in an induced coma and airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he tragically “never woke up”.

“The doctors said there were no signs missed and there was nothing anyone could have done, It was already too late,” she explained.

“That was really good for Claire to hear as she blamed herself. She still does.

“The family can’t afford to pay for a funeral suddenly. They’re all pensioners and even just for a stock-standard funeral it’s $5000.

“That’s just for a standard coffin that looks like a cardboard box.

“It would be so nice to give Claire and her two boys a good Christmas too, despite everything that’s going on.”

Ms Sherer said the family has been “overwhelmed with love and support” throughout this heartbreaking ordeal.

“I always knew he was a good kid and that he was special, but it has been amazing to see everyone come together,” she said.

“We will miss him greatly and he’ll always be in our hearts.”

Golden staph is commonly carried on the skin or in the nose of healthy people.

Around two to three out of every ten people carry the bacteria in their noses, according to Better Health, but it does not mean there will always be an infection.

There are around 6000 golden staph infections each year, and around 1200 people will die from it annually in Australia.
