Dermatologist reveals why you shouldn’t get a manicure

A UK Dermatologist has revealed the damage manicures are doing to your nails. Here’s what you need to know.

If you are a fan of getting your nails done, whether that be acrylics or gels, you need to listen up.

A London Dermatologist has opened up on the damage that your routine manicure is doing to your nails and you might want to have a rethink about booking your next appointment, The US Sun reports.

Dr Adel Dermatologist took to TikTok to inform people about manicures and what they are actually doing to your nails.

And if you care about the health of your nails, you might want to take a break from visiting the salon.

Dr Adel uploaded the video with the caption: “Here’s what you need to know!”

If you’re concerned about ageing and don’t want your hands to look old and wrinkly, you may want to avoid a trip to your nail technician.

Dr Adel explained that: “UV from gel manicures can accelerate ageing.”

If you really want to carry on having your nails done but want to avoid your hands looking old, Dr Adel has a tip for you.

She said: “TIP: Wear SPF or UPF gloves.”

And it’s unfortunate if you’re a fan of red nail varnish …

According to Dr Adel, “red nail polish can discolour nails”.

So if you don’t want your natural nails to appear yellow and discoloured, here’s a tip from Dr Adel.

To avoid this, she advised: “TIP: Wear an extra base coat.”

If you are someone that routinely pays a trip to a nail salon, you may have noticed that your natural nails are wearing thin.

Dr Adel said: “Repeated manicures can thin/damage nails.”

To keep your nails strong and healthy, she highlighted the importance of taking “breaks” in between getting nails done.

Dr Adel’s video has clearly impressed many as it has racked up 26.4k view and 1,977 likes.
