Victoria has recorded another jump in virus cases, with 64 new infections in the past 24 hours. Here’s where the new cases are coming from.

Victoria has recorded 64 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, continuing a trend of sharp daily increases.

Premier Daniel Andrews on Tuesday afternoon confirmed the state has now recorded a total of 2159 COVID-19 infections.

Here’s a breakdown of where the new cases have come from:

• Linked to outbreaks – 13

• Detected through routine testing – 20

• Under investigation – 31

The Melbourne suburbs with the highest number of new cases are Broadmeadows, Fawkner and Auburnvale.

Of most concern is the number of community transmission cases in those suburbs, and other suburbs approximate to them, Mr Andrews said.

The cases detected from routine testing describes people who come forward to be tested.

The premier revealed that in the suburbs of Broadmeadows and Keilor Downs alone, some 928 people have refused to be tested.

The cases that are under investigation mean authorities are unsure how the person caught the virus.

“There have been some 233 new cases of coronavirus since last Thursday, since that testing blitz began,” Mr Andrews said.

“That is an unacceptably high number and one that poses a real threat to all of us, not just in those hot spot suburbs but indeed in every suburb and ultimately every community across our state.

Victoria recorded 75 new cases yesterday, the state’s biggest daily figure since March 31.
