People have lost their sense of smell — and their teeth — because of coronavirus. Now there’s fears of a new symptom impacting men.

We’ve known for a while now that the effects of coronavirus can last for months.

COVID-19 can cause damage to the lungs, heart and brain.

Now there are warnings about a new symptom and men everywhere are sure to sit up and take notice – erectile dysfunction.

During a recent interview with NBC 5 Chicago, infectious disease expert Dr Dena Grayson highlighted the possibility the virus could lead to impotence.

“There is some real concern here that men could have longtime issues of erectile dysfunction from this virus, because we know that it causes issues in the vasculature,” Dr Grayson said.

“So this is something that is of real concern — not just that this virus can kill, but can actually cause long-term, lifelong potential complications.”

Impotence is the most common sexual problem in men.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US says the most common symptoms of coronavirus include fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, joint pain and chest pain.

The CDC said people had reported neurological symptoms including smell and taste problems, sleep issues, difficulty with concentration, memory problems

The virus can also impact people's mental health, causing depression, anxiety and changes in mood.

People have also reported experiencing brain fog, nerve pain, muscle aches and even losing their teeth.

British actor Hugh Grant — who contracted COVID-19 with his wife — said he had suffered common coronavirus symptoms, including a tightness in the chest and a loss of smell.

“It started as just a very strange syndrome where I kept breaking into a terrible sweat,” he said, describing it as “like a poncho of sweat.”

“Then my eyeballs felt about three sizes too big and this … a feeling as though an enormous man was sitting on my chest, Harvey Weinstein or someone,” he said.
