Coronavirus Australia live updates: Two states record new COVID-19 cases

New South Wales and Queensland have recorded no new cases of COVID-19 with just eight infections confirmed across the country today. 

Victoria has recorded seven new cases of coronavirus while Western Australia confirmed one case in a returned traveller. 

One of the new cases in Victoria remains under investigation. The remaining six have been linked to travellers returning from overseas.

Earlier, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged people to visit the "beautiful Whitsundays" after no new cases were recorded in the Sunshine State.

But the offer is targeted at locals given the state's border is set to remain closed for weeks.

“It’s really important that we continue to support our industries across Queensland," Ms Palaszczuk told reporters at Airlie Beach.

“If you want to see natural beauty, if you want to see paradise, come to the Whitsundays.”

The state government and local council have partnered with Alliance Airlines to offer four flights a week, at $99 an airfare, from Brisbane to the Whitsundays from June 22.

New South Wales also recorded no new cases on Wednesday.

Australia has recorded a total 7229 cases of COVID-19, with 3104 in New South Wales, 1670 in Victoria, 1059 in Queensland, 440 in South Australia, 592 in Western Australia, 228 in Tasmania, 107 in the Australian Capital Territory and 29 in the Northern Territory. Deaths now total 102.

At least 6625 people have recovered.
