Three young men have copped hefty fines after a police helicopter caught them allegedly trespassing on the roof of a Gold Coast building.
Three young men will be fined for breaching social distancing restrictions after they were caught allegedly trespassing and sipping drinks together on the roof of a Gold Coast building.
Police footage shows the moment a helicopter descends on the trio, as they sit on the rooftop of the Jefferson Lane building in Palm Beach on Saturday night.
“This is the police, this is the police,” an officer from the helicopter can be heard saying as the men are confronted.
“To the three people sitting on the building rooftop – yes, we can see you with your cold drinks.
“The building is surrounded by police. We need you to return to the ground floor.
“Return to the bottom immediately.
The men – aged 19, 20 and 21 – will each cop $1334 fines for breaching public health directions against gatherings for non-essential reasons, police said.
They were also issued infringement notices for being unlawfully on premises.

There are more than 6600 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Australia, with 2963 in New South Wales, 1329 in Victoria, 1019 in Queensland, 435 in South Australia, 545 in Western Australia, 195 in Tasmania, 103 in the Australian Capital Territory and 28 in the Northern Territory.
The death toll stands at 71. The latest victim is a 94-year-old resident from the Anglicare Newmarch House nursing home in western Sydney.
