Charlie Teo’s ‘miracle girl’ Milli celebrates birthday after disappointing scan results

The teen who was operated on by famed brain surgeon Charlie Teo has celebrated her birthday, but her mum concedes “sadness is coming”.

A teenager who has been living with terminal cancer since age nine celebrated her 14th birthday while her mother said “we know the sadness that is coming”.

Amelia “Milli” Lucas, who was diagnosed with a Grade VI Glioblastomaat at age nine and given 12 weeks to live, was given the name the “miracle girl” after she underwent experimental surgery with high profile neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo.

She celebrated her birthday with her friends and family, a milestone her mum said she and her husband wanted to see her daughter reach “so badly”.

“I remember lying in bed with Grant when Milli was first diagnosed and said to him if we can get our girl to 14 then that would be an amazing feat,” she wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Milli celebrated her 14th birthday last week following a disappointing scan result. .

The teen has been living with cancer for years.

Her family said she was 'spoiled rotten'.

Milli Lucas has twice been operated on by Dr Charlie Teo when other doctors wanted her to go into palliative care.

Milli received lifesaving, experimental surgery from Dr Teo, which left her 98 per cent cancer free.

However, in May of 2019, Milli was again diagnosed with cancer. And earlier this year the teen’s family revealed she’d been diagnosed with cancer a third time and would again undergo brain surgery.

“With the help of Charlie Teo and obviously our protocols and decisions in regards to Milli's treatment we saw this day,” mum Monica Smirk wrote.

“We should have been so ecstatic and happy that we got her here, but in the back of our minds we know the sadness that is coming.

“So hard to be happy, for both of us we tried and made sure she had an awesome day.

The teen “swam and watched movies” with friends and family who have supported her over the years.

“Milli was spoiled rotten and there are so many incredible people out there that care and support her we are very humble.”

Ms Smirk also revealed it’s now Milli’s dream to go skydiving, and a community fundraiser had come up with the funds to make the dream a reality.

“Not only funding the dive for her but also a few of them have been brave enough to go with her.”

The teen’s first skydive is planned for this Sunday at Rockingham Beach in WA.
