There have been two new cases of coronavirus diagnosed in NSW up to 8pm on Saturday, with both new patients returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Sunday’s figures mark the state’s ninth day with no community transmission.

There were 8,305 tests in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 10,334 in the previous 24 hours.

Dr Greg Stewart from NSW Health said there could still be coronavirus circulating in the community, and “we must all be vigilant”.

He asked residents to continue to come forward for testing if they have even the mildest symptoms, like a runny nose, scratchy throat, cough or fever.

“This is particularly important with school holidays and increased movement of people around the state,” he said.

The good news means NSW is currently a third of the way to seeing the Queensland border reopened, after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk delared she would welcome residents once the state was able to declare 28 days with no community transmission.

There are currently 51 active cases of coronavirus in the state, with three patients in intensive care.

None are being ventilated.

The total number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the state now stands at 4045.
