Sydney woman allegedly finds a large spider trapped in her Woolworths Italian salad mix
WOOLWORTHS is suffering another salad-related blow after a Sydney woman found a large huntsman spider trapped in her unopened packet.
WOOLWORTHS is suffering another blow after a Sydney woman uploaded a video on Facebook of what appeared to be a large huntsman spider trapped in her unopened Italian salad.
Zoe Perry posted the short clip, attracting more than 2.7 million views on the social media platform.
“Shopping as per usual for Italian Style Salad Mix....get it home....Mum goes to open the packet and we are greeted by....” she wrote online.
“Is this what’s actually behind the “salmonella” callbacks? Kind Regards, An arachnophobic family.”
Woolworths promptly responded to Perry’s public message.
“We’re very concerned about this Zoe, and take incidents like this very seriously. Please let us know your phone number and state in a Private Message at http://www.facebook.com/messages/woolworths so that we can follow this up with you ASAP. Thanks,” a Woolworths social media manager wrote.
The incident comes after customers had been warned yesterday against eating prepacked lettuce and spinach sold at Coles and Woolworths across Australia after a salmonella outbreak.
The lettuce, grown and distributed by the Victorian company Tripod Farmers, had been linked to at least 28 cases of salmonella.
Authorities fear the number could rise with more states affected, including NSW, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
A recall has been issued for brands such as Coles 4 Leaf Mix, Woolworths salad mix, SupaSalad Supamix and Wash N Toss salad mix.
