Does it pass the taste test? Real brain burgers now on menu at Aussie chain Grill’d in stunt for The Walking Dead

Would you eat a burger made out of real brains? A national chain is offering exactly that in an extraordinary stunt that has gourmet feedback divided between “gross” and “great”.

NOT sure if a brain burger is going to make anyone smarter, but it’s going to turn minds to matters gross — at least that’s the intention.

We’ve got to acknowledge our brainiac buddies at BINGE, who have come up with a clever and pretty amusing stunt to mark the hotly-awaited return of hit zombie series The Walking Dead.

Legend says a zombie’s fave delicacy is inside its victim’s skull — so the streaming service has teamed up with national chain Grill’d to offer a one-of-a-kind burger made of ... REAL BRAINS.

(If you had a little icky moment then, we don’t blame you).

And to sweeten the deal, not only is the burger free at participating restaurants, but customers brave enough to get stuck in also get a free month of access to BINGE’s impressive library of shows.

WHY I WENT BACK TO THE DEAD: Zombie newbie’s review

The Grill’d brain burger contains deep-fried lamb brain, lettuce, tomato, rhubarb, beetroot, ketchup, and is dripping in “brainnaise”.

Or, to use the exuberant words of our gleeful mates over at BINGE, the treat contains “the purest white and grey matter” and is aimed at those “craving fleshy bits”.

Personally, I’m mostly craving some time on the couch to catch up with the show itself — there’s a whole load of Aussies hooked on The Walking Dead, and the six new episodes of Season 10C are a much-anticipated bridge to the final season, hopefully to appear later this year or early next.

HOW TWD SHOULD END: Show’s main man has his say

But being an intrepid reporter, I have signed up for a brain-burger lunch ... and am now desperately trying to think of polite excuses.

A number of my mates are showing considerably greater courage as they drool in anticipation. (Makes sense, a couple bear more than a passing resemblance to zombies — especially before their second morning coffee.)

Oi, you lot! Join the queue — there’s plenty to go around.

Anyhow, get yourself along to a participating Grill’d and get stuck in. You’ll find them Saturday and Sunday at Grill’d Bondi Junction, Sydney; Grill’d Swan Street, Richmond; Grill’d South Bank, Brisbane; Grill’d Rundle Street, Adelaide; and Grill’d Victoria Park, Perth.

We’ll let Alison Hurbert-Burns, BINGE’s executive director, wrap up with an appeal to your eyeballs and tastebuds: “The Walking Dead is one of the biggest shows in the world, captivating a huge global audience with its post-apocalyptic horror story across 10 seasons. For those who haven’t sunk their teeth into this Zombie series, it’s never too late with BINGE. We invite you to wrap your hands around a BINGE Brain Burger and enjoy the hype of the world’s best zombie show — but you better be quick!”

The Walking Dead season 10C and all previous seasons are streaming on BINGE.
