Whether you’ve got a resident group quizmaster eager to host the night or would rather someone else handle the admin, here are five options to get you started.
Some provide you with an unlimited list of questions while other sites like the Quiz Meisters Online Trivia you to participate in real time.
All that’s left to do is come up with a team name.
1. QUIZ MEISTERS ONLINE TRIVIA
This is probably the closest thing to an at-home pub trivia experience. The event is hosted by an actual person live over Facebook and you can answer the questions with your team through a group chat or video call.
Download the weekly digital answer sheet via their website and join in via Facebook livestream at 7pm AEST every Friday night. Just keep in mind the differing state and territory time zones.
2. THE ORIGINAL FAME TRIVIA COMPANY
To do this you’re going to need a group quizmaster who will be in charge of asking the questions.
All they have to do is sign up to the free Fame Trivia Club and they’ll email them a new set of questions every Tuesday morning.
Then it’s up to your nominated quizmaster to host the night and keep score of the points. It couldn’t be easier.
Sporkle is more of a quiz-based website which is filled with thousands of quizzes for you to play at home. Most of them even have set times in which to complete the questions.
To use this for your trivia night, send each person the same link and see who can get the highest score.
The ‘Can you name the countries of the world?’ module is particularly fun. You get 15 minutes to name as many countries on an interactive map and each person or team can play along on their browser.
Here’s a few others to get you started:
Can you choose the correct words to complete these movie titles?
Can you pick what year each of these events occurred?
Can you pick the 30 Disney characters who sang these songs in just 60 seconds?
4. QUIZZAME
Another live trivia option, QuizzaMe provides you with a quizmaster and scorecard so you can play along with your friends. However, the scorecard does require you to fill out not only the answer, but how long it took your team to come up with the answer too.
Honesty aside, it looks quite easy to set up. They even have a quick video which shows you how to organise your very own virtual quiz night.
5. HOUSEPARTY
If you’d rather something super easy and hassle-free, the popular videoconferencing app, Houseparty also has an in-built trivia function. The topics include entertainment, slang terms, ‘finish the song’ and Fortnite.
There are other games too. If trivia isn’t your thing, you can also play Act It Out (think: charades) and Quick Draw, which is similar to Pictionary in that your friends have to guess what you’re drawing.
All you have to do is get your friends on the same call and crack open a beverage of your choice.
