Popular Bondi restaurant Zilver hit with $5000 in fines for unsafe food practices
The popular eatery, which made headlines after a wild brawl broke out during a baby shower, was slapped with the fines in August.
One of Sydney’s most popular Asian eateries has been slapped with more than $5000 worth of fines after it was found to be conducting unsafe food practices.
Zilver in Bondi Junction received five separate fines on August 18 after officers from Waverley council inspected the premises.
The biggest of the fines, amounting to $1540, was dealt out for handling food in a manner that was likely to render it “unsafe”.
The Cantonese restaurant was also fined for failing to maintain the premises to the required standard of cleanliness, failing to maintain the premises in working order, failing to ensure staff handling the food had skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters, and failing to take all necessary steps to prevent the likelihood of food being contaminated.
NSW’s Food Authority made the details of the penalties public this week once all the fines were paid.
The restaurant has been open for more than 30 years, with owners Henry and Chillie Tang taking over the business from Mr Tang’s father in the 2000s.
Zilver’s flagship restaurant in Haymarket closed earlier this year due to building redevelopment.
