Club Rose Bay closes, terminates staff after restaurant’s grand opening
A popular Sydney venue has terminated staff and announced it’s “closed permanently”, 24 hours after celebrating the opening of its new restaurant.
A waterside RSL in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has terminated staff and announced it’s “closed permanently”, 24 hours after celebrating its new restaurant.
Club Rose Bay marked the opening of Italian Bistro Villaggio – which is run under separate management – last Thursday, August 29 by giving away free pizza and pasta, The Daily Telegraph reports.
On Friday morning, the long standing club’s doors were locked and staff had been let go, with a sign reading “Club Rose Bay is Closed Permanently Until Further Notice Thank you” affixed to the entrance.
According to Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) documents, Club Rose Bay went into administration on August 15.
After the first meeting of creditors on August 27, administrators Hugh Armenis and Jason Lloyd Porter, of SV Porters, initially intended to continue “to trade the club in an attempt to explore possible scenarios for its future”, they said in a statement.
Last Friday, however, “a major change occurred”, SV Porters said.
“Simon Cathro and Andrew Blundell of Cathro & Partners were appointed Receivers by a secured creditor,” the statement continued.
“As a consequence, they took control of the assets of the Club. The Receivers closed the club and terminated all staff (approximately 20 which were employed on a casual basis).
There has been no mention of the Club’s closure on its website or social media. Posts advertising patrons to book their next event at the venue have continued to be shared on both its Instagram and Facebook pages.
News.com.au has contacted Club Rose Bay for comment.
Italian Bistro Villaggio, meanwhile, has removed all mention of Rose Bay from its social media.
The restaurant is continuing to trade as normal at its locations at other clubs including Merrylands Bowling Club, Richmond Club, Club Blacktown and West Ashfield Leagues Club.
There is no suggestion that Villaggio is facing financial difficulties.
