Twix was first produced in Britain in 1967 and became and instant hit with people loving the two chocolate biscuits covered in chocolate with a caramel layer in between.

Although the name sounds like it could be a play on words the company that produces the popular confectionary has never spelled out what it stands for.

However, eagle-eyed social media users have unearthed a Twitter thread from 2018 in which the official Twix account answers the question outright.

One user said they read the true meaning of the word Twix was “twin biscuit sticks”, the Mirror reported.

Replying to the Tweet, the Twix account responded to say it actually stood for “twin sticks”.

People were shocked to learn the true meaning of the word.

One person said: “You think you know everything, and then...”

It comes as Cadbury announced it would be changing the flavours in its boxes of Roses.

The confectionary giant has opted to return the family favourite chocolates to their original form, with more soft-centred treats featured in the boxes.

“Hard” flavours like hazelnut creme crisp, peppermint creme crunch, white raspberry and dark mocha nougat are no longer included.

Fan favourites such as strawberry creme, orange creme and peppermint creme will return to the box, while Cadbury has also introduced a new flavour – passionfruit delight.

Flavours such as classic milk, hazelnut swirl, vanilla nougat, classic caramel and caramel deluxe will all be returning.
