AUSTRALIANS live and breathe mangoes in the summertime, and now independent researchers have done the hard work for you - they've uncovered the best mangoes in the land.

Blind testing was conducted with four varieties of equal ripeness - Honey Gold, Kensington Pride, R2E2 and Calypso. Taste testers were required to answer questions on everything from taste to strength of flavour to appearance to smell.

Coming out on top overall with 47 per cent in favour were Honey Gold mangoes, grown at Pinata farms.

Kensington Pride came in at 34 per cent, Calypso at 10 per cent and R2E2 at 9 per cent, according to the team from Footprints Market Research.

Ingredients:
Mangoes
Lime
Mint leaves
Ice
Vodka
Soda Water
Toothpicks

Sugar Syrup:
Combine ½ cup white sugar and 3/4 cup water in a saucepan and simmer for 7 minutes. Cool before using.

Method:

For each glass, muddle 3 lime wedges, 6-8 mint leaves and a few chunks of mango. Add crushed ice, a shot of Vodka, sugar syrup to taste and top with Soda Water or Orange and Mango Sparkling Mineral Water.

Garnish with a sprig of mint and a few thin slices of mango.

Decorate each glass with a curled strip of mango cheek and a slice of lime speared with a toothpick.
