Urgent recall for Leggos Tuna Bake over microbial contamination fears
Officials are urging shoppers who have purchased a popular pantry item recently to return it to supermarkets over a worrying issue.
A popular pasta sauce is being urgently recalled over fears it may cause illness.
Leggos Tuna Bake with Spinach & Garlic has been pulled from supermarket shelves due to an incorrect pH level being detected in the sauce which could cause microbial growth.
Simplot Australia Pty Ltd issued the alert on the 500g jars of sauce which are sold at Woolworths, Coles and IGA stores across the country as well as various online outlets.
The issue – which only affects products with Best Before 01/05/22 and with a specific batch code of 12164 – can cause illness if consumed, a post on Food Standards Australia New Zealand Facebook page reads.

“Do not consume this product and consumers should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
Pasta sauce was one of the items bought in bulk during by panic buyers earlier this year.
The essential item was stripped from shelves as it can be stored in pantries for lengthy amounts without spoiling.
At the time, Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci said an extra 850,000 units of pasta sauce had been added each week but it was still in “short supply”.
