A popular household appliance has had an accessory recalled amid fears the product could cause injuries.

On Wednesday, Product Safety Australia announced the Thermomix TM6 measuring cup, which is sold separately to the device itself, was being recalled due to concerns it could cause burns to users.

If a consumer is using the measuring cup with the Thermomix, there is a risk steam could escape through the hole in the lid, and may lead “to a sudden and uncontrolled spillage of hot liquid or food”.

Consumers who have purchased the Thermomix TM6 measuring cup are urged to stop using it when cooking at temperatures above 95C.

The measuring cup, which also fits the TM5 device, is sold alongside the device or separately, was sold via online retailers from July 1, 2019 through to August 23 this year.

Product Safety Australia said consumers could use a different accessory to stop any risk of burns or scalds.

“Consumers should stop using the TM6 measuring cup to cover the mixing bowl lid when cooking at or above 95C,” a statement read.

“Consumers should instead use the simmering basket or the Varoma dish to cover the mixing bowl lid.

“A software update will be applied to provide warnings and amended instructions. Consumers should follow the amended instructions.”
