A tub of vegan ice cream sold at supermarkets across the country has been recalled after milk was detected.

Peters Ice Cream issued the recall of Connoisseur plant-based hazelnut chocolate with Ghanaian chocolate sauce and roasted hazelnuts, for one litre tubs with the best before date October 3, 2025.

The batch number is 231004A001, and has been sold nationally in Woolworths, Coles, IGA, independent grocery stores, convenience stores and other food retailers.

In a statement by Food Standards, the agency said the recall was due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

“Any consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance may have an adverse reaction if the product is consumed,” the agency said.

“Consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.

“Consumers should return the empty tub to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

According to the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, more than one in 50 infants are allergic to cow’s milk.

While most children outgrow that allergy by the age of 5, it can persist into adulthood for some people.
