Woolies opens first drive-through in affluent Sydney suburb

One of Australia’s most exclusive suburbs has now scored the country’s first drive-through only offering from the supermarket giant.

One of Australia’s wealthiest suburbs has now scored the very first Woolworths drive-through only service.

Woolworths launched its first ‘Direct to Boot’ drive-through store in the affluent suburb of Rose Bay, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, on December 7.

Customers have the ability to choose from the store’s range and place an order through the Woolies app or online ahead of time, boasting a whole new level of convenience just in time for Christmas.

Once the order has been place and packed, customers can text or confirm on the app when they have arrived in one of the eight bays and a staff member will bring out their groceries to their boot for no extra charge.

While the ‘Direct to Boot’ offering from Woolies is nothing new – the service is already offered at 700 locations around the country – the new site doesn’t offer the option of a walk-in store.

Sally Copland, the managing director of eComX, said: “We’re always looking to increase the amount of options customers have available to them to complete their shop at Woolworths.

“We know our customers are busier than ever before, which is why we’ve launched a new Direct to Boot drive thru for the local residents of Rose Bay and surrounding areas.

“We’re excited for customers to try the innovative design of a stand-alone Direct to Boot service, where they can be in and out with a car full of shopping in a matter of minutes.”

The new Rose Bay service has replaced an old petrol station on the corner of Old South Head Road and Albemarle Ave, which had reportedly become an eyesore for residents.

“It’s exciting to see our Rose Bay development site get turned into a new Direct to Boot drive thru for the interim use of the local community,” Andrew Loveday, Woolworths’ director of property development, said.

“We appreciate the support of Woollahra Council to help set this up, while we continue our collaborative approach with planning teams and the Rose Bay community on our long term plans for the site.”
