Woman’s surprise discovery about Facebook Marketplace Macca’s chairs
A woman thought she’d bought a bargain set of dining chairs from Facebook Marketplace. They came with a surprise.
A woman thought she’d scored a bargain purchasing a set of dining chairs from Facebook Marketplace — but now, years later, she’s discovered where they really came from.
American woman Marlie Tressler bought the “cute” black and white striped chairs from Facebook Marketplace three years ago and set them up around her dining table.
In a video posted to TikTok last week, Ms Tressler said she’d always wondered where the chairs were from, showing an image of them styled in what appeared to be her home.
She had bought all four for US$100 (A$150) on the buy and sell platform, she explained.
After Ms Tressler purchased them, the seller “immediately deleted his Facebook page”, which she said in hindsight was a “red flag”.
“This is what I saw last night in this South Georgia McDonald’s,” Ms Tressler said in the TikTok video, laughing with a friend inside a car.
The video cut to a clip filmed inside the store, where the chairs were stacked onto tables. Several of the chairs appeared to match Ms Tressler’s, with the same colours, design and style.
“It’s identical. Those are stolen McDonald’s chairs,” she said through laughter.
“McDonald’s, I will kindly return these stolen artefacts to you. I do apologise. I know you’ve been spiralling out of control missing these chairs. Look no further.”
Ms Tressler said she believed the seller had nabbed the chairs from a McDonald’s before flogging them on Facebook for a profit.
Commenters were in hysterics over the video, which has been viewed almost 400,000 times.
“I want to know how he did it. Did he go back and steal one chair a night for weeks at a time?” one person asked.
“Girl keep the chair. I’m sure they have a budget for things like that, plus you paid for them,” another wrote.
“I want some McDonald’s chairs. Those are cute!” said a third.
Some commenters even added their own remarkably similar stories.
“Bought a TV once off Facebook Marketplace. ended up being McDonalds menu screen,” one wrote.
Another added: “Reminds me of when I paid $30 a yard for fabric only to find the same lovely southwestern pattern in plastic on all the booths at Taco Bell!”
