A viral video has told everyone they are opening their lollies wrong but one Australian brand has set the record straight.

Anna Antonje saw a video online that said everyone was opening their lollies incorrectly.

The suggestion was that instead of tearing the top of the packet, people should use the plastic from where it hangs on a hook in supermarkets to peel in a downwards direction.

Shoppers could then thread a long strip of plastic around the bag and back through the a gap at the top.

Aussie brand settles lolly debate

“No way, I can’t believe it,” Anna said in shock after testing the theory on Haribo lolly packets.

Other social media users were also shocked by the revelation of how Anna opened the bag.

“At this point I don’t know how to live,” one social media user commented on the clip.

Another said: “Does Haribo know?”

“My whole life is a lie,” another social media user said.

One added: “Doesn’t matter. I never need to reseal them.”

“Did people not know this,” another asked.

One person said they were going to save the clip and test it out the next time they bought lollies.

However, one Australian brand — Allen’s — has chimed in on whether Australians have been opening their lollies wrong this whole time.

“When it comes to Allen’s lollies, whether you’re a stretcher, a biter, or a nibbler, there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy these sweet treats,” an Allen’s spokesperson told news.com.au.

“And the same goes for opening an Allen’s bag. While we’ve conveniently marked ‘tear here’, we know lolly lovers are as unique in how they open their bags, as in how they eat them. “From the tug-and-tear masters, to the careful cutters, to the rip-and-splitters, everyone has their own way of tucking into a delicious bag of Allen’s.”
