Victoria Beckham reveals truth behind strict diet
Victoria Beckham’s unusual diet has made headlines for years, and now the fashion designer has finally revealed the real reason behind it.
Victoria Beckham’s strict diet has made headlines for years, with husband David revealing that she has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years.
That favourite dish: Grilled fish and steamed vegetables.
Now, the fashion designer and former Spice Girls singer has revealed in an interview with the UK’s Telegraph the real reason behind her strict diet.
Beckham, 50, who gave up meat at just eight-years-old, said she’s very selective about her diet due to her skin. That’s because in her 20s, at the peak of Spice Girls’ fame, Beckham was very self-conscious about her acne.
Beckham says to keep her complexion looking radiant she avoids certain wheats and flours, and substitutes wheat flour for cassava flour. She also uses a £2000 ($3855) Dermalux LED device for half an hour every morning.
“It was because of my skin that I became very careful about what I ate,” Beckham told the Telegraph.
The beauty mogul also said she manages to avoid stress “by not taking on anything I genuinely don’t think I can do. Oh and by not cooking”.
Beckham had previously attempted to master cooking while living in Spain with her family, after David signed for Real Madrid in 2003.
“Harper says I can burn water, so it’s probably better for everyone that I don’t,” Beckham said of her 13-year-old daughter.
When it comes to posing for photographs, Beckham said she had felt uneasy.
“And yeah, probably I did look stern in a lot of pictures, but I was so uncomfortable.”
Now, as she ages, she said it’s been liberating: “Was there a time when I used to scroll through all the comments about me? Probably. But now I just don’t have the time.”
Beckham said a typical day involves waking up early, doing weights, seeing Harper off to school and then arriving at the office.
Restrictive diet
David had previously spoken about his wife’s diet in 2022: “Unfortunately I’m married to someone that has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years.
“Since I met her she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables, she will very rarely deviate from that.”
He continued: “The only time she’s probably ever shared something that’s been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper and it was the most amazing thing. It was one of my favourite evenings. I can’t remember what it was but I know she’s not eaten it since.”
Victoria previously revealed she refuses to eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, and she doesn’t eat dairy.
Meanwhile, her comfort food was a piece of wholegrain toast with salt on it and on her birthday she celebrates with a cake made from fruit.
That same year a Spanish TV chef Dani Garcia shared Victoria Beckham’s eating habits after he prepared dinner for her at a wedding.
“It was very strange. Victoria Beckham changed the whole menu,” he explained, saying Beckham reused to eat anything other than vegetables.
“It was very sad because when you make such an effort, not just me and my team but the bride and groom and everyone else to create a unique menu.
“Hers was totally different and just based around vegetables. And then there were some odd things that I’ve never seen in my life.
“She had coconut water, all the time, a bowl of mints and then on the other side hydroalcoholic gel which is very famous now but back then wasn’t because the Covid pandemic hadn’t started.”
