An unusual “Aussie” flavour of Coles’ popular roast chicken has divided the internet after it popped up on supermarket shelves.

How to make Vegemite bolognese

An “Aussie” flavour of roast chicken has appeared on the shelves of Coles supermarkets across the country, with shoppers divided on whether it would actually taste good.

The supermarket has described the new offering as a “match made in culinary heaven” and said it was a “tasty new option to elevate the next family get together”.

Some confused social media users have asked why Coles would combine the two, while others have said they want to try it.

However, some disagree, with one customer saying they “just threw up in my mouth a little” after seeing it.

“Why the f*** would you put Vegemite on a roast chicken,” another Twitter user said.

Some were quick to point out Vegemite is often used as a part of a marinade in many home recipes.

Coles said the spread creates “a subtle and more-ish umami flavour”.

“We always want to delight our customers, giving them something they have never had before. We have spent many months ensuring we have nailed the perfect flavour profile so that our customers still get the taste of two iconic products they love, in an exciting new way,” Coles product developer Tim Hickox said.

Not only is the chook slathered in Vegemite, but it’s also stuffed with Bega cheese.

For those who are game to try Coles’ latest creation, they will be sold in select stores nationally for $13 each from November 11.
