TikTok video reveals McDonald’s tricks everyone needs to know

A former employee has claimed there’s a disgusting reason you should never order a caramel sundae from McDonald’s in a viral video.

Former Macca's worker reveals store secrets

A former McDonald’s worker has gone viral on TikTok after she revealed dozens of “secrets” about the fast food franchise.

New York makeup artist Dessy Joseph worked at McDonald’s from 2013 to 2014 and has posted more than 30 videos revealing behind-the-scenes goss about the golden arches, Insider reports.

Her advice on how to get the freshest food with a discount while never ordering the caramel sundae has been viewed millions of times.

Here’s the best of her advice – but it’s important to note, as Dessy says, “McDonald’s is a franchise, every location is different”.

THE ICE CREAM MACHINE ISN’T BROKEN

In her first Macca’s secrets video which has been viewed more than 22 million times, Dessy revealed that the ice cream machine hardly ever breaks – but there was a good reason staff claimed it was.

“The ice cream machine is rarely broken, at least at my location,” she said. “We just didn’t want to change those heavy bags of shake mix.”

DON’T ORDER A CARAMEL SUNDAE

In her second video Dessy claimed if you were ordering a caramel sundae you could be getting an added ingredient.
She explained that the different sundae sauces were stored in “metal bins” at the base of the machine which would cause the caramel to go off.

“The machine gets hot, it heats up when it’s working and condensation builds. Condensation plus tight closed spaces equals mould,” she said.

“There was plenty of occasions where we would open the thingy and there’d be mould in it. “They’d pour the new hot fudge or caramel or whatever on top of the old mouldy one and call it a day.”

ALWAYS ORDER TO GO

In her fourth video Dessy said you should never request your meal as dine-in because of the trays.

“I’ve seen people do some disgusting things with the to stay trays – I’m talking blowing straight-up boogers into the trays,” she claimed.

“And to clean the trays we just have a bucket and a rag and we just use that bucket all day. So no, it wasn’t really properly cleaned, disinfected … order to go and just rip the bag open to use as a tray.”

GET A DISCOUNT SIMPLY BY HOW YOU ORDER

In part seven, Dessy said that there was an easy way to get a discount on your order by using one word.

For example, if you were ordering a hot cakes breakfast you should say “sub” if you wanted to add one item and take another away.

“Most of you would say no hash browns, but I want extra bacon. The person will remove the hash browns but add the extra bacon and you just spent two dollars for no reason,” she explained.

“Instead use the word sub say ‘no hash brown sub bacon’. It reminds the cashier to press the sub button and you won’t be charged extra.”

HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR ORDER IS FRESH

Dessy said that during busy periods like lunch they would make certain meals ahead of time, leaving them on the heated belt until a customer ordered them.

One way to ensure you were getting fresh food was to request a customisation that was hard to do if a burger was already made, like removing a condiment.

“Most people just add cheese so they would take a sandwich from the belt and add cheese to it … take off that mayo or take off something else, preferably condiments because you can’t scrape that off a sandwich to make sure they just assembled your sandwich.”
