Aussie supermarket giant Coles has unintentionally ignited an online debate surrounding the taste of one of its iconic pastries — the yellow iced doughnut.

First reported by Kidspot, a Reddit post asked if anyone knew what flavour the yellow doughnut actually is.

The question sparked a lively discussion among dessert enthusiasts.

User @geecee98 shared, “I love to buy the Coles 6-pack doughnuts that include the strawberry, chocolate, and ‘yellow’ doughnut. Does anyone know what flavour the yellow doughnut actually is? I think it’s pineapple, but some people think it’s banana.

“Is it even supposed to be a specific flavour like chocolate and strawberry? Someone settle this debate, please!”

Over 200 comments flooded the thread, and opinions were as diverse as the toppings on the doughnuts themselves. The debate was primarily divided into two camps — pineapple voters and banana voters.

Pineapple enthusiasts were convinced of the tropical twist, with comments like: “Tastes like pineapple to me, and I love them,” and: “I always thought they were pineapple.”

Banana theorists argued for the distinct banana flavour, stating: “Banana cause everything yellow is banana flavoured. Duh.”

Amid the pineapple versus banana debate, some outliers suggested lemon, while others believed the yellow glaze was merely icing sugar with yellow colouring.

Things took an unexpected turn when a revelation about the pink doughnut’s flavour (or lack thereof) surfaced, leaving fans astonished.

“Tropical. As someone who has made thousands of these b*stards, the fondant flavour is tropical,” one said while also dropping another bombshell about the other flavours found in the six-pack.

“The chocolate is chocolate, and the pink is … pink. That’s it. Pink Super Soft Fondant. Doesn’t actually have a flavour,” they added.

To resolve this online debate, Kidspot reached out to Coles for an official answer. According to Coles’ Communications Manager Keith Brown, the real flavour of the mysterious yellow doughnut is TROPICAL.

“I can certainly help you settle the debate; the mystery yellow doughnut is tropical,” Brown confirmed, bringing an end to the flavour dispute that captivated doughnut fans online.
