FANS OF Aldi’s discount supermarket in Germany are dining on meals that cost less than $12 at a new “Aldi restaurant”. Will it come down under?

ALDI has opened a new restaurant — and diners have been raving about it online.

Sadly for Australians eager to sample the budget supermarket’s dining experience — which is a jaw-dropping AU$12 for three courses — it’s in Munich, Germany.

One blogger, testthebest1807, posted a thorough review of her experiences there on Instagram.

She wrote (in German) that there was “early autumn vegetable soup” as a starter and then a choice of three different mains, all for AU$6.

She listed chicken breast on courgette gnocchi, Alaska salmon fillet with mustard sauce on cucumber salad or tortellini with rocket foam and walnuts as the main options.

It was possible to buy a cola for AU$1.30, although alcoholic drinks are also available.

Her overall summary was that the food “was really tasty and the waiters were also very friendly” and that the service was fast.

The interior of the restaurant also looks great, with the main body of the building being made from a shipping container, brightened up with natural wooden boards and a large terrace at the front.

The top of the container doubles as a second tier of outdoor seating, making it ideal for people wanting a quick drink after work, or to make the most of the German weather before winter truly sets in.

The menu at the bistro changes each week, and is designed to showcase its selection of produce and wines from the discount supermarket.

Aldi spokeswoman Sandra Sibylle Schoofs told The Mirror: “In the middle of the city centre in Munich, we not only create a central meeting place for everyone, but also give our customers the opportunity to try out delicious recipes and take them home.”
