Supermarket’s cheeky response after bread photo goes viral
After a photo of a loaf of Woolworths bread sliced lengthways went viral on Reddit, the supermarket giant had a cheeky comeback to the image.
A mistake in the bakery at a Woolworths store has led to a cheeky response from the supermarket chain after an image of what happened went viral on social media.
A social media user took to Reddit to share a picture of four loaves of bread on a shelf at Woolworths.
However, the key difference was that instead of the bread being sliced horizontally, creating up to 20 slices, it had been cut lengthways.
This meant slices were larger but there were fewer than 10 in the bag.
It was captioned: “New innovation coming to a Woolworths near you – loooooong sliced bread.”
The post went viral on social media, and Woolworths had a cheeky response to the photo.
The spokesperson told news.com.au: “What’s even better than sliced bread? Well according to the internet today, bread sliced lengthways.”
It was also clarified it was not a new item - lengthways sliced bread was not available to purchase in stores.
However, many said it would be a great addition to the supermarket’s offering.
“Long sandwich is better than tall sandwich,” one social media user commented on the thread.
Another said: “Legit would buy this. Garlic bread, picnic sandwiches, so great.”
“I love this bread so much HAHA it is perfect for salmon and cream cheese open face sammiches,” one social media user added.
Some suggested it may be possible by special request at the bakery.
“It’s a thing. I used to work in a bakery and we’d occasionally get requests to slice the bread long-ways, like this, for pinwheel sandwiches,” another social media user said.
Another added: “I used to work in a supermarket bakery, and this would sometimes happen with the mini loaves that our slicer wasn’t designed to slice.
“We had ways of trying to mitigate it but occasionally the loaf would still bounce off the guard turn 90° and go through the slicer vertically.”
