Taste's famous easy rocky road

An image of a popular assorted chocolate box has social media users up in arms over the stark change.

A picture of Nestle’s Quality Streets tin was shared to social media. It showed the tin between the 1980s and now.

Quality Streets is a variety chocolate box. A 500g box currently retails for $34 at Coles.

The image showed the box get progressively smaller as the years went on. Between the 80s and now it appeared to have halved in size.

Social media users had a huge reaction to the image.

“Always got told not to dig and to take one from the top. Wouldn’t have to dig now could see to the bottom,” one social media user commented.

Another added: “It’s just STREET now, the QUALITY has long since gone!!”

“They also don’t taste the same now. Tasted so much better back then. Same with chocolate bars and packets of crisps. They were bigger, cheaper and tasted better back then,” one said.

Another added: “It’s getting worse. The big tins you could use for putting home made cakes in after you scoffed all the chocolates. The new ones you can only keep a few pancakes.”

“I miss the 80s. Life was so much simpler back then,” one added.

Another social media user said: “The ones now don't even cover the bottom of the box it's a rip off for the money they charge.”

“As a child I could grab a full handful out of that big tin every day for a week and not get caught. Nowadays I wouldn’t dare touch them if I was a child as one handful is all that’s in the bloody box,” one added.

Another said: “Change the name from quality to quantity streets because this inflation is too much.”

However there may be a very good reason for this.

A Nestle spokesperson told news.com.au the brand is known for its iconic Christmas packaging.

“In Australia last year, in the aim to remove more than 30 tonnes of plastic material annually the Quality Street tub switched to paper packaging,” the spokesperson said.

“We are transitioning to new paper-based wrappers inside the tub too, but Aussies can still expect the same great taste they know and love this festive period.”
