Obama joins outraged guacamole lovers after a New York Times recipe insults their beloved dip
IT was only meant to be a helpful hint. But this tiny ingredient was enough to enrage an entire nation, even bringing together rivals Barack Obama and Jeb Bush.
“ADD peas to your guacamole,” they said. “Trust us,” they said.
And that’s when it happened. The internet exploded.
America’s mass mob of guac-a-holics went on a rampage, with even the leader of the free world weighing in on the heated debate.
And it all began with an innocent suggestion from the New York Times on Twitter, politely prodding their readers to “trust us” and give peas a chance.

The recipe indicates the writer is aware it is a “radical move”.
But that did nothing to calm the red-faced guacamole disciples. Pea-gate had sprouted.
People were erupting at the mere thought of somebody desecrating their favourite food — even if it might save a decent wad of avocado dollars — and the New York Times copped a barrage of abuse.
Because guacamole is more than just a tasty dip that pairs well with corn chips. It is sacred.
Suddenly, political rivals Barack Obama and Jeb Bush found some common ground: peas in guacamole is plain unnatural.
respect the nyt, but not buying peas in guac. onions, garlic, hot peppers. classic. https://t.co/MEEI8QHH1V

If you put peas in guacamole I'm going to assume you're a terrorist and will alert the authorities.

I'm not saying the New York Times should cease publication immediately, but they advocated putting peas in guacamole.

Melissa Clark, who wrote the recipe, defended herself against the pea-laden fury.
The funny thing: I wrote about @ABCCocinaâs #peaguacamole 2 years ago & no one peeped. Now, outrage. #dontknockittillyoutryit @nytfood

No deal.
Because whatever is next? Blue cheese crumbled over ice cream? Chocolate-dipped canned tuna? Please, stop this madness.
Peas out.
