Jamie Oliver left Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington in shock on Thursday when he revealed his unique hack to cook chicken.

The Naked Chef star, 48, appeared on the breakfast program to demonstrate one of his methods of cooking chicken and chips, while promoting his new cookbook 5 Ingredients Mediterranean.

Oliver started the process by marinating chicken and potatoes in a lemon, herb and honey mixture, before wedging the chicken legs into an oven rack.

He then placed the rack into a pre-heated oven so the chicken pieces were dangling over the vegetables, ensuring the excess marinate drips into the tray for extra flavour.

‘This is giving you the best, most juicy chicken and (it’s) crispy,” the celebrity chef explained.

He said the technique was inspired by his travels around the Mediterranean, where he saw rotisseries being used roadside.

Sunrise hosts Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington appeared fascinated and applauded Oliver for his innovative approach.

“Mind blown,” Shirvington said. “How good was that?”

“Wow,” added Barr. “I have never seen that!”

Shirvington and Mark Beretta gave the chef a standing ovation before the segment ended.

It comes as Oliver prepares to return to the Sydney Opera House in November.

For one night only, the chef and child health campaigner will take to the stage for an evening of in-depth conversations about his career, his inspirations, life, love, and what keeps him motivated.

“Every time I visit Australia it feels like a big old hug – it’s a real home away from home for me and I’m so excited to be back this year for this event,” he said.

“I can’t wait to sit down with you all for good chats about good food and good times, have a laugh, and take some questions from the audience.”
