McDonald’s Australia releasing four ‘rare’ McNugget dipping sauces

The fast-food giant is temporarily releasing four new dipping sauces – including a popular flavour that Aussies have never tasted before.

Macca’s item we need Down Under

McDonald’s has listened to the desperate pleas of nugget fans – and is bringing back four popular dip flavours.

As part of a “Sauces in July” promotion, the fast-food chain is giving Australians the chance to get their hands on a run of famous limited-edition condiments – starting with Cajun Sauce and the “rare” Szechuan Sauce.

The cajun dip recently featured as part of a collaboration with South Korean boy band, BTS – selling out back in 2020.

However the Szechuan is making its debut appearance Down Under after being originally released at Macca’s restaurants overseas in 1998 to promote the Disney film Mulan.

The “super limited” promotion runs from July 6 to July 19 with the other two sauces yet to be revealed.

The Cajun Sauce is a creamy blend of Dijon mustard, vinegar, honey and spices that has a “sweet yet tangy flavour”.

While the Szechuan Sauce is an aromatic and rich blend of soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame oil.

“We know how much Macca’s fans love our Chicken McNuggets and sauces and we can’t wait to release a limited stock of some our highly requested sauces like Szechuan and Cajun sauces,” Tim Kenward, McDonald’s marketing director, said.

Macca’s is giving superfans an early chance to secure their “own supply” of the rare dips before they hit restaurants with a “Sauce Quest” – an digital scavenger hunt that will send keen foodies on a trail traversing to uncover hidden sauce by solving clues.

Over three days, “Sauce Questers” will need to successfully find 10 sauce “splatters” to be in with a chance of claiming their very own supply before they hit Macca’s restaurants.

The online game kicks off June 28.

Last week, Aussies called for the return of the burger joint’s “sharing fries” – a large portion of McDonald’s cult hot chips.

The pleas came after a British traveller shared stumbled across the generous serving size while visiting Poland, posting a video of the huge carton of the Macca’s fries on TikTok.

“McDonald’s fries biggest portion EVER!” Michael captioned the clip, which has been viewed several million times.

“I’m in Poland at the moment. And I think this may be the biggest portion of McDonald’s fries in the world. This is just their medium as well,” he said.

“No, I’m kidding. It’s actually a new portion size for them called ‘sharing’ size. Just look at it. It’s wonderful. Wow.”

The giant serving of fries was a hit with TikTok users, prompting many to call on their own country to start offering it – including eager Aussies.

“They had this in Australia over a year ago. Got rid of it later. Time to bring it back,” one said.

“Had this in Australia years ago, please bring it back,” another wrote.

As some said: “We need this in Australia.”

The “sharing” fries have previously been sold in Australia as part of the chain’s “Dinner Bundles” and the Chicken McNugget share packs.

However a spokesperson told news.com.au there was no plan to “bring it back” or sell the larger fries serving on its own.
