McDonald’s Australia launches meal for adults

Fast food restaurant McDonald’s is set to launch a new meal based on a cult television show.
Macca’s is introducing its Squid Game Meal and Challenge across the country on December 11.
The meal comes with 10 nuggets — with either a large or a medium drink and fries. It’s served with limited-time Korean BBQ sauce.
However, the real draw card for fans is the Dalgona Candy. The candy comes in four shapes — circle, triangle, star and a Golden Arches ‘M’.
In the show, characters needed to carve the candy into the shape without snapping it.
Amanda Nakad, marketing director for McDonald’s Australia, said: “You’ve seen Squid Game on Netflix, now experience it at Macca’s as we bring the game to life for our customers and fans alike across our restaurants.
“Whether you’re a Macca’s collector, are planning to binge-watch Squid Game, or simply want to enjoy this unique candy, now is your chance to get in on this exclusive collaboration.”
Social media users had a lot to say about the menu drop.
“Sounds like it’s just the BTS meal, but with a different sauce and a Dalgona candy,” one social media user said.
“I am assuming not a kid’s happy meal box,” one added.
The meal will be available from December 11 to January 7. In addition to the meal, Macca’s is also hosting a Dalgona Candy pop up in Sydney’s World Square on December 10.
It’s not the first time the brand has released an “adult” Happy Meal. Earlier this year the viral Grimace Shake dropped in Macca’s around the country.
The lilac shake, a tribute to the iconic fictional character that featured in the original McDonald’s adverts alongside Ronald McDonald back in the 1960s, was launched alongside a Grimace Meal in the US back in July 2023.
After spotting the special beverage on social media, many Aussies declared they were keen to try the berry-flavoured concoction.
Then, a few months ago, several Aussie food bloggers claimed the Grimace Shake would finally be sold in restaurants across the country at the end of the year, though Macca’s remained tight-lipped on the claims.
It finally landed in Australia on October 4.
