Macca’s launches brand new chicken burger in Australia

After teasing Aussies a new burger was launching, the fast-food giant has finally revealed what it is – and it’s good news for chicken fans.

Macca's reveals brand new burger

Fast food giant Macca’s is set to bring out its next “big thing”, sparking excitement among fans of the burger chain.

The brand posted an image of Instagram of blackened out burger with the date September 20, prompting social media users to speculate what fast-food item would be coming.

Some believed it was the McRib finally making a return while others suggested it was the McChamp, which featured crispy chicken, tangy relish and mayonnaise.

Food influencer @nectoriouspapi however took to TikTok to reveal the inside scoop on Macca’s mystery burger, launching on September 20.

“Guys, I know what it is. Do you want to know what it is,” he asked his 22.3K following on the social media platform.

“It’s the McCrispy burger.”

The McCrispy launched in the US market last year and features a crispy southern-style fried chicken sandwich topped with crinkle-cut pickles and served on a toasted potato roll.

Australian social media users have already reported being able to try the new item in stores, with some describing it as a “fancy” version of the McChicken burger.

Dre Pao, who posts snack news and reviews on TikTok, was sceptical of the new burger.

“It’s a close call. It’s got a potato bun, there is definitely a crisper layer on the chicken and it’s thicker,” he said.

“It’s better than a McChicken.”

In response to the social media excitement, Macca’s confirmed the mystery burger was in fact the McCrispy.

“We’re excited to confirm that the McCrispy burger range will start to become available in Macca’s restaurants from Wednesday, September 20, ahead of its official launch next week,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Our crispiest chicken burger yet, the McCrispy features 100% Aussie RSPCA Approved chicken breast with a crispy coating, topped with fresh shredded iceberg and cos lettuce and a new McCrispy signature sauce, served in a soft glazed bun.

“We look forward to sharing more of the deliciously crispy details with customers soon.”

The release of the item comes as news breaks that Australia could face a “significant” chicken shortage as workers at the country’s largest poultry producer prepare to kick off industrial action on Friday in pursuit of an 18 per cent pay rise.

More than 1000 workers at Inghams – which supplies Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, KFC, McDonald’s and Subway – in South Australia and Western Australia will strike for 24 hours on Friday in a bid to win a 6 per cent pay rise, annually, for the next three years.

That equates to about an extra $1.50 an hour per worker.
